So many things about competing are not within our own control. No wonder we can be anxious, stressed-the-f-out, jittery, and self-conscious before a comp.On top of all the outside stressors, we have our own thoughts invading our inner peace, and the regular nerves and adrenaline that come with competing too.
With all these feelings flying at you, there are a few things within your control. Be prepared for the situation you can foresee happening. Here are five tips to help you stay prepared when you’re traveling for skating competitions.
5 Tips for Traveling to Skating Competitions
Write down the address of the hotel you’re staying in, not just the name. This is in case you lose cell service and your maps app doesn’t work.
Always pack extra snacks! There’s nothing worse than getting into your hotel late, and everything is closed.
Bring a small cooler or cooler bag to keep water, ice packs, and store perishable food you bring/ buy.
Pack baby wipes: these do the same job as makeup wipes, but they’re multi-purpose.
Put a blanket inside two pillowcases: This doubles as an easy way to store/carry your blanket around when you’re not using it, or a pillow if you have a moment to rest in your car.
